15th August 2010 – today is our 40th
anniversary – 8am Paris time, 4pm Aussie time.
Our plan had been to go to the Eiffel Tower but it has poured
and poured rain so we need a plan B.
Martine recommended a local museum ‘Musee Jacquemart Andre’. It is a beautiful house full of collections
of art, furniture and tapestries. It was
truly lovely. In the back area is a grand
café. A nice setting for a special
lunch. We both had quiche –yum.
We rested for the rest of the afternoon. Martine called us a taxi and off we went,
still raining to Tower Montparnasse. The
restaurant – ‘Le Ciel de Paris’ (the sky of Paris) is on the 56th
floor. On a clear night it must be
spectacular, but it rained all evening.
The view was still great – every hour the Eiffel Tower is covered in
lights twinkling on and off – also Notre Dame and many of the other
landmarks. It is a lovely place.
Our meal was delicious –
Entre Crab
meat salad on parmesan lattice
Mains Turbot
grilled (fish) and salad for me
Beef
salad for Pop
Dessert Berries
with Chaucon pepper and yoghurt ice cream – me
Chocolate
pudding – Pop
And some lovely French coffees – truly delicious meal.
We had enjoyed a very special day – we couldn’t help
wondering if the 18 and 21 year olds, who had married 40 years earlier, would have
believed that they would one day be here in Paris.
