Camprodon - the town that time forgot 26th August 2010

It had been very noisy overnight – people talking at the top of their voices in the square and the streets are washed by a very large van at 6.30ish.  Trucks and motor bikes drive through the square but that is the only down side.  It is a very laid back town that time forgot.  The earliest that breakfast was available was 9am.  Nice to have a sleep in.  We took our drying clothes to the car, parked in the new town area, and draped them over the seats, back window ledge etc. to finish off drying.  It was meant to be over 30 again today so they should dry very quickly.
We went for a walk over the main old bridge and took some photos.  Den took some of Isaac Albenitz house, which is now his museum.
At 10 o’clock we went separate ways – Pop was going to climb up to the old ruin on the hill to see what it was and to also fill in time till it was 11 o’clock when the Museum was to open.  I was going to do some shopping.  The shops were meant to open at 10am but at 10.20 most were still closed.  The shop times are 10am to pm then 4pm to 8pm.  I wandered to where we were going to meet later and Pop was there so we had a coffee out on a balcony over the river – very peaceful.  It was after 11am now so we thought most things would be open and most were – the museum was.  I had seen a lovely pair of shoes while I was window shopping so I headed back there and finished up buying two pairs of Spanish leather shoes for only 108 euro – bargain.
We met up again and wandered back to where I had spied an old Studebaker car (another one of Pop’s interest).  This area, which was mainly a collection of war memorabilia from First World War was now open.  It was great.  We then wandered to a park where there was a monument to Isaac Albenitz.
Every thing here is very clean and well cared for.  There are lots of people walking pedigree dogs that are obviously well loved.
From the monument we wandered back along the long loop road and came across the remains of what looked like an old monastery.  Then on and through a park.   Within the park there was an old tree stump covered with moss with water cascading down it.  There was a circular seating around the park and the centre planted with trees.  It was dedicated to Dr. Robert but no info. As to who or what he was or did.  We went onto the car and took our dried washing back to our room.  We then headed to get some lunch 2.30pm.  It was about 40 degrees.  We found a nice cool shady spot under some huge old trees and had 2 pizzas.  The one I ordered was a calzone style – we had never seen them before so found it really interesting.

Time to go back to our room for a rest.  We woke about 5.30.  It was cooler now so we went to the shop across from our hotel and had an ice cream.  We went for a stroll after dinner.  Pop took me to see an old water fountain he had found that morning ‘Marc De Lare Font’.  It was dusk by this time.  The residents of the old town were there filling large plastic bottles from the fountain getting their next days water.  While the men did that the women stood and talked and the children played on the swings and slides.  No wonder we couldn’t find a Laundromat if most of the homes didn’t have running water.  We had a drink at Sant Roc where we were staying and then off to bed.
