Arles to Hyeres 29th August

We left Arles early to escape any traffic.  We had decided to head to the French Riviera – but with time constraints we decided upon Hyeres as it is the closest, and had pre-booked our accommodation – ‘Le Stokaides’.  We arrived about noon and got unpacked and set off to get some lunch.  We were amazed at the number of cafes and restaurants there were.  We bought a couple of rolls at a shop that advertised ‘smoothies’ – oh boy – they may have been smooth but it was not what we were expecting.  It was a very thin syrupy milk – definitely not to our taste.  Oh well a nice walk back to our unit and borrowed some towels – sounds simple but this involved a lot of hand gestures and charades.  The beach was only a narrow strip but nice – lovely relaxing on the sand.

For our dinner we walked back to the Marina.  I had a huge bowl of mussels, Pop a schnitzel.  It was a very pleasant night.  The waitresses had been entertained by our attempts to order our meals and drink s in French.  They were friendly and made a memorable evening.  A nice walk back to the unit in the cooler evening breeze.
