Hyeres to Pontcharra 31st August 2010

A big driving day today.  Sometimes on freeways sometimes back roads.  The scenery was great as we headed back to Geneva to return the car.  Lunch was at a large cafeteria on one of the freeways.  The windows went to the floor so we enjoyed watching the chooks and ducks wandering around in the garden.  Back on the road, enjoying the beautiful scenery.

We stopped to walk around StNazaire-en-Royans.  It was a very attractive town with a huge aqueduct built in the 1800’s.  We decided to move on and headed toward Chambery but stopped at a town called Pontcharra.  We had no idea where we could stay that night as there were no hotels etc. around.  We asked a man, and after an attempt at to speak to him in French we resorted to charades – he and his wife led, us with their car, to a hotel.  It was very good of them.  It had taken them a long way out of their way.  We were very tired and so very glad to have some where to sleep.  We had dinner in the hotel and then lights out.
