Pisa to Florence 9th September 2010

We woke early, breakfast then final pack and off to the rail station to buy our tickets to Florence.  Pop worked out how we validated them just before the train departed.  Nice country side to watch as we made our way to Florence.  It only took about an hour.
We found our hotel.   Just a huge doorway off a piazza – the room is lovely with soft green furnishings, 14 – 16foot high ceilings and huge windows out onto a central garden courtyard.  Time to unpack and have a rest.
Lunch was at the little café just next door, then off to find an ATM.  It wasn’t hard to find where to buy our tickets for a hop on hop off bus as just up the corner from the hotel was about 5 different young men trying to make a living selling the tickets.
The bus took us firstly to Michael Angelo Piazzale. This is set high on a hill top overlooking the city of Florence.  In the centre of this area is a copy of Michael Angelo’s ‘David’.  It is very picturesque.  We wandered about taking in the views.  We bought a couple of iced teas, very refreshing on such a very warm day.  We just stayed on the bus and went around the whole circuit and noted where we wanted to return to tomorrow.

Time for a snooze then a shower and off out to find something for dinner.  We wandered to a large Night Market.  We walked on through to a nice outdoor restaurant called   ‘Za Za’.  On our way back we came across a lovely leather shop.  Lots of beautiful bags to choose from, will have to sleep on it and return tomorrow.  We found an ice cream shop just around the corner from our hotel – Florentine Cream – my new favourite flavour, so yummy.  Nice way to end a day in this fascinating city.
