The train ride was nothing special – no spectacular scenery
so Pop and I just read. We arrived into
Venice with what felt like thousands of others.
The train pulls into a huge station area with a car park next to
it. It took us a few minutes to decide our
best way of getting to our hotel. We
eventually boarded a ferry that travel around the Grand Canal. We then hired a porter to take our luggage
and guide us to our hotel. He had a
wooden hand cart which he pushed along at such a fast rate I was having trouble
keeping up. I would have loved to have
sat on top of the cases but that was out not going to happen.
Venice is a place that has to be experienced. I cannot explain how it looks or feels, except to say - I love it. The walkways are narrow, 2 person wide in
places, a bit wider in others and piazzas and bridges everywhere.
Our hotel – Hotel Bruno – is rather grand. It is furnished with old style polished
furniture and Murano glass light fittings.
We got settled and went for a walk to San Marco Square. The buildings were a delight. So many pieces that make up the whole
magnificent place.
We bought 2 small paintings from an artist on the waterside
– his name was Domingo. We had some
dinner. There was some confusion over my
order and I finished up with a much more expensive meal – oh well it was really
nice.
We had found by now that where ever you went in Venice you
needed a map.
