Although we made an early start to go to the Museum which
has the statue of David, the queue was already very long. Every 15 minutes the queue moved forward as
only so many were allowed in at any time.
While we were waiting we were entertained by watching a street artist
doing drawings on paper taped to the pavement.
One American tourist, who was walking past, asked his wife why everyone
was queued up – to see David, she replied with that he spun around, on top of
the artist’s work and asked David who?????
You could see the penny drop and he scurried away. A disgusted artist started again and
eventually the laughing settled.
It was finally our turn to go in to see David. It was well worth the wait – it was
amazing. There was lots of other pieces
on display, some unfinished, some teaching pieces, and lots of arms, legs and
heads, which were made separately and then attached.
From there we went to the leather shop and I bought two
beautiful hand bags – lucky girl that’s me.
I spent most of the afternoon in the Laundromat. A nice young man – Bruno helped me to work
out how to get the machines working. It
was interesting hearing his story of living in Florence. He worked as a tour guide and earned just
enough to keep a roof over his head, eat and do his washing. His dream was to live in Australia. I offered him money for helping me which he
refused so I gave him some tokens he could use for his washing the following
week.
Back to the hotel to pack.
So nice to have a suitcase full of clean clothes. We went for a walk to a local park and
enjoyed just having a quiet time watching the world go by. Home to get ready then out for a last dinner
in beautiful Florence. Of course another
ice-cream on our way home. Florence is
said to be where ice cream was invented so it was only right that we had
enjoyed so many ice creams during our visit to this lovely city.
